Charles Kipsang Kipkorir died after taking part in the Race of Hope on Saturday 24 February 2024 in Buea.

What began as a time to celebrate quickly turned to mourn. Last Saturday, all eyes were on the city of Buea in the South West region of Cameroon. The event that caught the attention of everyone was the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope.

The 29th edition of the athletic competition ended with the death of Kenyan born Charles Kipsang Kipkorir, who was competing in the senior men’s race. Regular at international athletics contests, Kipsang Kipkorir appeared to be in top form before the race began on Saturday morning.

After crossing the finishing line, Charles Kipsang Kipkorir who ended at the 16 rank began to feel unwell. The situation became a critical one. The athlete was immediately rushed to the Buea Regional Hospital where he received urgent medical attention. But the efforts of the doctors to revive him were not enough to save him from the worst. However, the authorities have launched an investigation to find out the exact cause of Charles Kipsang Kipkorir’s death.
