The extraordinary meeting of the board of directors of the Local Development Index (LDI) was chaired yesterday by Joseph Dion Ngute.

The government has set up several institutions working on its behalf to promote and support the decentralisation process. One of these institutions is the Local Development Index (LDI). According to the Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute, this is the technical tool used by the State to measure the level of development achieved by local authorities. This statement was made during the extraordinary meeting of the Board of Directors of the institution, which he chaired on May 07 2024.

The meeting served to underline that the LDI is pioneering a strategic approach in finding resources for sustainable local development. The LDI provides the State with data to promote the harmonious and balanced development of the country by giving greater visibility to actions taken on the ground.

Following a technical assistance agreement signed on June 01 2013 with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and FEICOM, the Local Development Index is implemented by the National Institute of Statistics. The agreement also foresees that the LDI serves as a programming and planning tool for regional development.
