Cameroon : Customs Collects Over CFAF 2,457 Billion In Two Years

The top management of Customs informs that for the period between 2020 and 2022, it has collected about CFAF 2,457 billion, “for a target of CFAF 2,318 billion, a rate of achievement of 106%. These figures are revealed by the Director General (DG) of the institution. “Over the same period, budgetary customs revenue improved from CFAF 707 billion in 2020 to CFAF 897 billion in 2022, an overall increase of nearly CFAF 190 billion in absolute value and 26.8% in relative value,” said GM Edwin Fongod Nuvaga on February 3.
For the year 2023, the institution has set itself the target of collecting nearly CFAF 1,027 billion.

According to a report of Transperency International on corruption in the States for the year 2022, Cameroon during the year has obtained a score of 26 out of 100, to occupy a position of 142nd out of 180 countries. The other countries of the Cemac zone are better than the country of Paul Biya. Gabon (136th), Central African Republic (150th), Congo (164th), Chad (167th) and Equatorial Guinea (171st).
On a continental scale, Botswana and Cape Verde, with the same score of 60 out of 100 for 35th place, are at the top.

Cameroonian Customs Eyes over FCFA 20 Billion in Cocoa Export Taxes in 2023

The Cameroonian Customs Administration is expecting the newly-introduced cocoa beans export tax to generate between CFA20 billion and CFA25 billion this year. The finance law states that the export of raw cocoa beans is subject to an autonomous exit duty at a rate of 10% of the FOB value. This rate is 2% for cocoa beans exported to industrial free points or similar systems.
