Professor Wilfred Mbacham was appointed on July 31st 2023 as  Chairman of the Board of Directors of Malaria Consortium. Malaria Consortium, an international NGO based in London  specialising in the prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases.

 

 

In his new role, Prof Mbacham will play a central role in guiding the strategic direction of the organisation and ensuring that its mission is carried out successfully. “This is the pinnacle of my career in science diplomacy, and I am delighted to be joining the Malaria Consortium team to continue to champion the prevention, control and treatment of malaria, communicable diseases and the fight against malnutrition through the transfer of technovation for current and future projects,” the scientist told the press . “Together, we will continue to demonstrate how investment in low-cost strategies by those who live with and suffer from these diseases will ensure high-impact promotion of better health and save lives in Asia and Africa“, he added.

 

The appointment of the 59-year-old Cameroonian public health biotechnology practitioner was made public on 31 July via a press release issued by the organisation. He replaces Professor Marcel Tanner, who has decided to step down after seven years in the post. According to Malaria Consortium CEO James Tibenderana, Professor Mbacham has all the qualities required to chair the Board of Directors.

His wealth of experience and dedication to our cause will be invaluable as we strive to expand our reach and make a lasting impact. We are confident that under Wilfred’s leadership we will reach new heights, particularly as we look to build on our 20-year milestone this year,” he justifies. His predecessor, Prof. Marcel Tanner, is convinced that his appointment to the post will bring new perspectives to the organisation.

 

He is the founder and president of Fobang Institutes for Innovations in Science & Technology. This is a higher education institution  with the aim of popularising science and technology, and complementing Africa’s efforts by providing innovative approaches to research and development. A graduate of Harvard University School of Public Health, Prof Wilfred Mbacham has worked as executive secretary of the Cameroon Coalition Against Malaria (CCAM), a civil society platform affiliated to the Malaria Consortium.

Prof. Mbacham  is the founder and president of Fobang Institutes for Innovations in Science & Technology. This is a higher education institution  with the aim of popularising science and technology, and complementing Africa’s efforts by providing innovative approaches to research and development.  He has also been coordinator of the Pan-African Conference on Malaria Control, chairman of the management committee of the AFRA-IAEA programme in Vienna  and coordinator of the graduate programme in life sciences and organismal biology at the University of Yaoundé I.
