The United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) has recently taken up the fight against this scourge. It has also taken the opportunity to support the fight in the Far North region.

Gender violence is a scourge of Cameroonian society. The Far North region is no exception. Here, the plague is rooted in culture and tradition, and the difficulty for victims to report. In spite of the many efforts made by the Cameroonian government, gender-based violence (GBV) is still a major problem this region.

This is why the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) has decided to join the fight. Last Monday November 13, the UN agency handed over a donation to the GBV sub-group coordinated by the regional delegation of the Ministry for the Family and Women empowerment. The donation was an office equipment kit containing reams of paper, packs of pens, ink cartridges, printers and air conditioners.

According to Jean Alain Mah, head of UNFPA’s Maroua sub-office, this support is explained by the fact that the Far North is a region where GBV is a reality and therefore the fight needs to be stepped up. Mahamat Salé, the regional delegate of the ministry, says this equipment will improve the working conditions of his team more than ever before, with a view to achieving better results, in particular for the well-being of the victims of gender-based violence throughout the Far North region.
