Deputies and Senators are meeting this Tuesday, March 5, in their respective Houses.

Members of the National Assembly have been summoned by the President of the Lower house of the Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril. They attended the opening plenary session at 11am in the temporary hemicycle of the Yaounde Conference Center. The Senators, for their part, will do the same at 4 p.m. in the temporary hemicycle of the same palace.

The main issue at stake in the March session is the renewal of the offices of the Houses and the General Committees. This renewal will take place in a context where Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, 84 years old and President of the National Assembly since 1992, intends to stand for re-election.

As influential figure in the Far North region, he recently wanted to organise a forum on famine in the Far North. But the President of the Republic opposed the event and banned it. A ban which puts some distance between the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril.
