The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) urged the authorities to complete the investigation as soon as possible in a press release on November 10.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said it had learned with “dismay and disgust” of the “murder of 26 civilians by secessionist terrorists” in Egbe-Kaw, near Mamfe, on November 6. In the light of 1566 United Nations Security Council Resolution, the Commission “once again condemns in the strongest possible terms this terrorist barbarity, which nothing can justify”.

The government assured that an investigation would be launched following the Mamfe massacre. The Head of State assured that “all possible means will be used to find and punish the perpetrators to the full extent of the law” in a telegram to the Governor of the South West Region. The Commission therefore urges the authorities to complete the investigations that have been opened so that “all instigators, perpetrators, accomplices and supporters can be found”.

The NHRC calls on the “terrorists” to put an end to “the unspeakable suffering and the unnecessary deaths that are being inflicted on the population”. It also calls on the various actors to step up their efforts to facilitate the arrest and trial of those involved in terrorist activities in the North West and South West regions.
