Several youths in Limbe have denied access to landlords who claim ownership of lands in the Mondoli neighbourhood.

“They are chasing farmers with machetes, denying them access and selling their land, claiming it’s indigenous land. They recently set up a toll gate to extort money from farmers and confiscate their produce,” said a landlord who was chased by youths in Limbe. They have been targeted by several youths in recent weeks as their land ownership is being challenged.

Land issues have been a recurring problem in Limbe, with land grabbing and illegal sales. In some cases, the youths mentioned above take possession of land and later sell it: ‘We have complained to the administration and to the governor, but nothing has been done.,” said a victim quoted by the Cameroon news agency. He adds that his land has also been illegally seized by someone claiming it as ‘indigenous land’. But in 2023, the Fako SDO had warned that there was no such thing as native land in his jurisdiction.
