The government is requesting the amount to ensure the reopening of the 52km road, as disclosed by the World Bank.

“We have just completed an evaluation mission for the additional financing of the Babadjou-Bamenda road project for an amount of FCFA 30.3 billion as requested by the Government of Cameroon,” wrote the head of the World Bank mission to Cameroon, Papa Moudou Ndiaye. This was after the evaluation mission he and his team carried out in the region a few weeks ago. This new amount brings the total cost of the road project to FCFA 140 billion.

With this intervention by the World Bank, the government, through the Ministry of Public Works, has taken all the necessary measures to resume work on the 5-kilometre-long bypass, according to the institution. Work is expected to resume in mid-April. The Ministry says that technical, social and environmental measures have already been put in place to ensure a smooth resumption of work according to our colleagues at CNA.
