The President of the Republic, Paul Biya, has authorised the Minister of the Economy and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, to sign a loan agreement with the Spanish bank, Banco Santander.

Cameroon continues its urban video surveillance project. The C FAF 32.7 billion requested by the State of Cameroon will be used to finance the second phase of this project, this time on a national scale.

The project is being implemented by the Chinese technology company Huawei, the main technology partner of the state-owned company Camtel. It will eventually provide Cameroon with 10,000 transmitter-receiver stations equipped with cameras for inter-agency communication, connect police services via fibre optics, activate videoconferencing facilities for police services and implement an emergency call management system. The main objective is to cover the country with 5,000 video surveillance cameras linked to 17 control centres.

According to officials, the first phase of the project, launched in 2014, deployed 1,500 CCTV cameras, 65 basic transmission stations, four control centres and 1,000 transceiver stations, mainly in the main cities (Douala and Yaounde).
