The members of Cameroon’s Enterprises (Ecam) voted in favour of the merger-creation project initiated with the Gicam. This was during a meeting on July 12th in Douala where Ecam approved the merger.

The communiqué issued at the end of the meeting states that 96.72% of Ecam members approved the merger. “Over the past few weeks, I and the other directors have been hammering home the importance for our employers’ organisation of joining the train of union with Gicam“, said Protais Ayangma; president of Ecam who campaigned for the merger to be approved.

He did not hesitate to give his opinion on this merger-creation, which he described as “a historic opportunity“, an essential and praiseworthy change of direction and “a victory for Cameroonian employers”.

The vote comes a day after Gicam members approved the merger with a score of 73.7%. While the battle raged between the yes and no camps at Gicam, the outcome of the vote at Ecam was predictable.
But not everything is decided yet. A group of four Gicam members, led by Emmanuel Wafo, chairman of Gicam’s economic and business development committee, have applied to the interim relief judge of the Douala-Bonanjo court of first instance to suspend this week’s Extraordinary General Meeting of Gicam. The verdict was postponed.
