The accidents occurred in Likomba on the Douala-Tiko road on the morning of December 14, 2023.

They have been snatched from life on the road. Their days were cut short by a broken down and badly parked truck in Likomba, in the Fako division of the South West Region. The tragedy happened at around 5 o’clock on Thursday 14th December 2023. A motorbike taxi travelling at high speed with two passengers at the back found itself underneath a broken-down lorry.

The occupants of the two-wheeler were killed. Other motorcyclists who had been alerted to the accident went to the aid of their injured colleague, but were hit by a vehicle coming from the direction of Mutenguene. The same car that hit them ended up under the same lorry. Four other people were killed. This brings the total number of people killed in the two accidents to seven.

These accidents occurred two days after the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, launched a road safety awareness campaign. The campaign aims at reducing the number of accidents during the festive season, which is known to involve high levels of moving people and goods. It is also one of the periods in Cameroon when the number of fatal accidents is highest.
