The rally was held following the killing of three motorcyclists by suspected separatists’ fighters last Monday.

Ambazonian separatists have declared Monday as a ghost town in the North West and South West regions since the Anglophone crisis began in 2017. Attempts to ignore this have often resulted in deaths and schools, homes and shops burned down. And last Monday, three motorbike taxi drivers ended up getting killed. This led to a rally by their fellow colleagues.

The motorcycle taxi drivers revealed that their colleagues were shot dead last Monday, April 01, 2024, shortly after obtaining the weekly permit. They believe that the municipal and administrative authorities of the Meme division are using them as a shield against separatist fighters and to combat the “Monday ghost town” through the introduction of the weekly permit.
