These are the preliminary casualty figures of an attack last night in the headquarter of the South West Region, one of the troubled areas of Cameroon.

Five civilians have been killed and several others injured in a new attack claimed by separatists in Buea. Five cars were burnt and many shops were destroyed. The attack was claimed by separatists fighters. A video posted on social networks shows vehicles being burnt and gunfire crackling. A hooded gunman appears and gives the reason for the attack.

According to him, the attack was carried out to avenge those who refused to respect the ghost-town order declared in the North West and South West regions. The order issued by the separatists makes Monday a day on which no economic activity is to be carried out. However, this order has been rejected by the government, which is encouraging the inhabitants to carry out their activities.

In the video, the attackers promise that the same fate will befall anyone who tries to disobey the order to observe the ghost town. The outcome of the attack remains unofficial. A statement from the administrative or security authorities is still awaited.
