The village of Egbekaw in the South West region of the country was the scene of an attack by secessionists on Monday and left many dead and several injured.

23 people were killed and about fifteen houses were burnt down. These are the figures confirmed by a gendarmerie officer and reported by our colleagues at Agence française de presse. These figures are the result of an attack that occurred from Sunday night to Monday morning in the South West region, specifically in the village of Egbekaw.

“The attack left about twenty men and children dead and ten seriously injured people are in hospital,” said a senior official in the region, speaking on condition of anonymity. A senior official at the Cameroon Human Rights Commission (CDHC) confirmed the attack and gave a preliminary death toll of 15. “But this figure could change,” the member of the government body assured AFP.
