The Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises granted an audience to Her Excellency Dr. Corinna FRICKE, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Cameroon, last October 11 2023.

A delegation of German entrepreneurs seeking investment opportunities in Cameroon met with the Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises on October 11 this year. This audience gave both parties the opportunity to exchange on priority areas of interest for Cameroonian SMEs.

The purpose of the meeting was to facilitate inter-company exchanges, technology transfer and, above all, the acquisition of machine tools from Germany. At the end of the meeting, Minister Achille Basilekin III recalled that “it was a question of meeting the needs of Cameroonian households and businesses, and this is the gamble we are taking alongside Germany to bring our industrialisation drive to the levels we hope for”.

For the Minister for SMEs and the German Delegation, it was all about identifying specific sectors in which this technology transfer could be deployed, notably in the agro-industry and processing sectors, as well as in poultry, etc. For the record, economic relations between Germany and Cameroon are still underdeveloped, and few German companies are investing in the country because of the difficult conditions.

The volume of bilateral trade in 2021 amounted to 206 million euros, with Germany importing 82 million euros worth of goods from the country and supplying 124 million euros worth of goods in return. Trade with Cameroon is therefore of little importance to German foreign trade.
