The Vice Chancellor of University of Bamenda, Prof. Theresa Akenji, says the lecturer in the department of English, Prof Mbufong Paul Kuban was assassinated by unidentified men who chased him before committing the act.

In a press release signed by delegation from Professor Suh Cheo, unidentified men chased the late Professor Kuban to where he sought refuge behind the TUBAH council before carrying out the act.

He was immediately rushed to the Bamenda Regional Hospital mortuary where doctors were unable to save his life as he gave up the ghost. His corpse is lying at the Bamenda Regional Hospital mortuary as the identity of his ‘killer’ is still not clear.

While extending her heartfelt condolences to Professor Kuban’s family, the Vice Chancellor urge both students and staff to remain calm, She states that the necessary measures are being taken to ensure that the university is secured.

The localities of Bambui and Bambili have witnessed heavy fightings since Monday between security forces and separatist fighters though it is still difficult to determine the casualties.
