The Union des Populations du Cameroun, UPC, has designated Habiba Issa as the party’s flag bearer for the 2018 Presidential election scheduled for October 7.
The party took the decision on June 15 in Douala during an extraordinary congress held in conformity with the internal rules and regulations of the party.
“The UPC will be part of the Presidential election…with its own agenda and candidate,” the party said in a statement after the congress.
Habiba Issa, who is so far the lone candidate who has declared to run for the 2018 Presidential election has been provided with a 20-man team charged with running and organising her campaign.
“The UPC therefore calls on all its members and patriots to join forces together so as to push of the women, youths and the people to vicytory,” the party said.
The UPC also added it is aware of numerous calls from several quarters for opposition parties to head into the Presidential election as a united force.
The party said it is open to a coalition with other parties but would only do so if both parties have similar projects that can help improve the lives of Cameroonians.
