The United Nations Resident Coordinator Allegra Baiocchi has praised the Government’s effort for setting up the Humanitarian Emergency Assistance plan to assist victims of the anglophone crisis.

The plan which was launched last week show’s government’s efforts to address the humanitarian situation as well as protect the affected population, the UN resident coordinator.

The resisend coordinator however expressed concerns about the deteriorating condition in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, scaling up its capacity and presence to respond to the assistance and protection needs of displaced populations, in the respect of humanitarian principles and in coordina- tion with the national effort, the resident coordinator said in a statement.

“Baiocchi joins the calls made by the United Nations Secretary General, to reinforce efforts by all parties to ensure the protection of innocent civilians and uphold “Rights up front” . Civilians are not a target and must be spared from vio- lence, ” the statement also said.

The Cameroon Government launched the 12.7 billion FCFA Humanitarian Emergency Assistance Plan for victims of the Anglophone crisis last week with elites of the North West and South West Regions following up the next day by raising over 236 million FCFA.

Elites from the South Region have also joined in solidarity by raising over 120 million FCFA which have all been handed to the Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji who is the national coordinator of the plan.
