The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has open a field office in Buea to assist persons afflicted by the ongoing crisis in Cameroon’s English speaking regions.
According to a news brief from UNHCR, the new office is aimed at responding to the escalating number of internally displaced persons, caused by the ongoing unrest in the North West and South West regions.
According to UNHCR, as at September 30, the number of internally displaced persons in the South-West region alone totaled 246,000 people. “Displacements were observed in both rural and urban areas,” the UN body said.
