South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has gone into quarantine after being exposed to Covid-19 during a dinner party he attended at the weekend, the presidency said on Wednesday. However, Ramaphosa was not showing any symptoms yet and would continue working remotely, the high office said.
Ramaphosa, who was a guest at the gathering, tested positive on Tuesday, the presidency said.
Some 35 people are said to have attended the fundraising event, which was also graced by a guest who showed symptoms for the disease on Sunday but tested positive on Monday.
The result only became known on Tuesday after the president unveiled the OR Tambo Airport statue and later attended the opening of a new hotel in the same area.
The presidency did not say how long Ramaphosa’s self-quarantine would last but 14 days has been the norm in the past for Covid-19 patients.
