South African Airlines says it is set to resume operations and take to the skies again in September after months of economic losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic.The airline which was recently privatised in a desperate bid to prevent it going down under had laid off close to 1000 of its workers and the world health crisis bit harder.

Reports spoke of the airline’s workers voluntarily taking severance packages and being allowed to be laid off.

A South African Airlines statement seen by APA on Thursday says its planes will take to the skies on 23 September, beginning with domestic flights.

International flights will resume shortly it adds.

“In just under a month, the striking and familiar livery of SAA will once again be visible in the skies” SAA which had been bailed out severally by the South African state adds.
