The circulation of motorbikes in Manyu Division has been banned for a period of two weeks, the Senior Divisional Officer Oum II Joseph has said.

In a release signed on May 3, the SDO said the two-week ban concerns both private and commercial motorbikes in Manyu Division, except Mamfe town.

However, the movement of bikes between 6pm-6am in still remains restricted as per a previous decision.

The SDO has tasked all administrative heads and security forces to enforce the decision which is aimed at containing the security challenge faced by the division in recent months.

Parts of Manyu Division have been a battle ground for Cameroon security forces and separatist fighters which has led to several deaths on both sides as well as several persons fleeing into neighbouring Nigeria to seek refuge.

This is not the first time authorities are using such ban in an attempt to contain security challenges in the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon.

On March 9, the Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji, banned the movement of bikes in parts of the North West and South West Regions following the abduction of two local administrative officials in the North West Region.
