Members of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, have created a commission of inquiry to probe into cases of torture, arbitrary arrest and illegal detention in the North West and South West  regions of Cameroon.

The commission was created during the party’s national executive committee meeting, NEC, which held in Bamenda over the week end.

During the forum which brought together mayors, senators, cabinet ministers and national advisory council, the executives called for unconditional release of those arrested and an end torture and imprisonment. They equally noted with dismay that the government has continued to fight with impunity some anglophones in the two English speaking regions. They wondered why the government will negotiate and even pay ransom to terrorist sects like boko haram but was fast to arrest and imprison members of civil society with whom they had negotiated.

NEC members stated that the government has continued to fight undeclared war against the people of two regions with military deployed everywhere intimidating citizens.

The meeting was also an opportunity for the party to once again urge government to pursue dialogue as a way forward to end the protracted crisis rocking Cameroon’s two english speaking regions. They frowned at the court case opened against some Bishops in Cameroon arguing that the mission has done a lot in educating Cameroonians and cannot be brought to court today by so called consortium of parents.

In the end the SDF executives prescribe sustained dialogue over the form of the state as way to contain the crisis. The party also announced its upcoming national convention for October, 2017.
