The Mayor of Sangmelima André Noel Essima has been freed after spending the night at the Special Criminal Tribunal in Yaounde where he was answering charges related to the management of his council.

He was freed on Friday afternoon after interrogations continued in the day but he was cleared by judges to return home to the delight of his family members and friends gathered at the court’s premises.

The mayor was at the Special criminal tribunal in Yaounde on Thursday after which it was decided he be remanded in custody for more interrogations to continue on Friday.

Andre Noel Essima has been grilled on numerous occasions at the Special Criminal Tribunal since 2016 for his management of council funds. But he is now a free man.
