The state-owned South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is set to switch off its analogue TV signals in favour “of alternative digital technologies for television viewing,” the broadcaster announced on Thursday. The move is in keeping with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s January announcement in Parliament that the country would end all analogue TV broadcasting by April 2022 and migrate to digital television broadcasting, the SABC said.

The SABC advised its viewers on Thursday “to go to your nearest Post Office to register for a free government-subsidised decoder in order to continue receiving a television broadcast” .

The public would be informed as and when new developments occur, according to the broadcaster.
