Rwanda flag carrier RwandAir on Tuesday announced the resumption of its flights between Kigali and India’s economic hub of Mumbai from Friday, after a four-month suspension due to global concerns over COVID-19 variants. The Rwandan flag carrier will operate the flights two times a week on Mondays and Fridays, it said in a customer communication.

The flight between Mumbai and Kigali aims to increase tourism as well as business opportunities and strengthen the relationship between the two nations.

From Kigali as its hub in the heart of Africa, RwandAir is one of the fastest growing airlines and operates one of the youngest fleets on the African continent. The airline has excellent on time performance, reaching seventeen cities in western, eastern and southern Africa and the Middle East.

The once fast-growing airline that suffered a blow during the COVID-19 is seeking recovery and has put in place health and safety measures and protocols to restore customer confidence, including a COVID-19 vaccination program for all staff.

The company had suspended all commercial flights to Uganda and India in May and June this year respectively over a spike in Covid-19 cases.

While restrictions are looser in Rwanda, the airline has yet to reopen several international routes due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in many countries.
