Ahead of the world cup qualifications game against Algeria on March 25 and 29, the indomitable Lions’ coach selected the 27 players who will take part in this encounter.
In less than two weeks, Cameroon will challenge former AFCON title holders, Algeria, for the 2022 world cup qualification on Qatar soil. For this encounter, the new head coach of the indomitable Lions, Rigobert Song called 27 players out of the 38 he preselected some weeks ago.
It should be noted that a player like Patient Wassu of Coton Sport de Garoua who was not amongst the 38 now features among the one selected. Experts say this line-up is thanks to his performance with Coton during the African confederation cup with his club and the objective of having a competitive team strong enough to outsmart Algeria and book a ticket for the next and greatest football global jamboree.
An objective to have a competitive team is maybe one of the reasons why players like Fabrice Ondoa, Christian Bassogog and Clinton Njie have not been retained by Rigobert Song. These players lack competition and their last performances with the indomitable Lions were highly criticised.
What is a bit surprising with Rigobert Song’s final list is the non-selection of young talented Sacha Boey. The 21 year old defender of Galatasaray who decided to play for Cameroon rather than France has not been retained by Song. His performance highly appreciated in the Europa League competition against FC Barcelona seems not to have convinced the new indomitable Lions head coach.
However, we hope his decisions pay off because Cameroonians won’t take a failure against Algeria for granted given that the indomitable Lions were absent for the last global event in Russia.
