The leader of the “Now” movement Akere Muna has called on the opposition to figure out a common strategy that will defeat incumbent Paul Biya at the upcoming Presidential election on October 7.

Akere Muna is one of the nine candidates whose files were retained by the elections management body Elecam, on Tuesday for the Presidential election.

Akere like many other candidates will be coming up for the first time against Paul Biya who has held a firm grip on the country’s top job since 1982. However, the former President like many other candidates believes a strong and united coalition can unseat the 85-year old.

“Before, I had declared my intention to be a candidate. Now, I am one. My mission now is twofold. The first one is to tell the Cameroonian people that the change they seek is within their reach,” Akere Muna said in a statement shortly after Elecam unveiled the list of candidates retained for the Presidential election.

“The second is to tell the other candidates that we must sit down and find a common denominator. The future of this country is more important than any one of us, or all of us put together. I remain confident that we will be able to put the Cameroonian People first.

“This outgoing government has always put the people last. It has been a government by the government, of the government and for the government. They are so blinded that they fail to gauge the high level of misery and suffering of the Cameroonian citizen. Their awakening will be catastrophic
