A one-month curfew has been imposed on five of the six divisions in the South West region by the Governor of the South West Region Berard Okalia Bilai.

The curfew which runs from the 1-30 March concerns the Meme, Ndian, Kupe Manenguba, Manyu and Lebialem Divisions, from 7pm-6am.

According to a decision signed by the Governor, the curfew has been imposed « considering the exigences of security, the preservation of peace and the maintenance of law and order. »

During the curfew, movement of commercial vehicles and private cars shall be prohibited.

However, the Fako Division is the only Division exempted from the curfew though cities in the Division have been on a lockdown in recent weeks.

The curfew comes in the wake of events in the region where violent clashes have occured in some sections leaving security officials and civilians dead.
