The Secretary General of the Nguti Council was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday after voting for the Senatorial elections, local sources say.

According to the Eden Newspaper, Chief Obi John Ajiah was kidnapped immediately after voting by unknown men who have since demanded a sum of five million frances to secure his release.

Nguti has been one of the centres of fierce battles between Cameroon security forces and separatist fighters who promised to disrupt the holding of the senatorial elections in the locality.

It was was of two areas, alongside Lebialem where polling stations were relocated due to security threats from the separatist fighters.

The abduction of authorities in some parts of the region has been on the rise with as recent as those of the Chairman of the GCE Board Ivo Leke Tambo in Lebialem or that of Chinese and Cameroonian road construction workers. They were all released last week in separate incidents.
