The Mozambican government is losing revenue amounting to more than 1 billion meticais (US$13.6 million) annually to corrupt activities by public officials, according to reports monitored here on Wednesday.The state-run Radio Mozambique quoted Attorney General’s Office spokesperson Cristóvão Mondlane as saying acts of corruption by public officials are costing the country in terms of implementation of development projects such as improvement of infrastructure in the education and health sectors.

The officials are allegedly diverting funds meant for development projects to personal use.

He announced that the Attorney General’s Office is in the process of implementing public reforms and development strategy to close the loopholes in the administration of government funds.
