The Minister of Transport Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe says overspeeding is the main cause of the accident that occured in Mbankomo, a village in the outskirts of Yaounde on Wednesday which left at least one person dead and others injured.

The 70-seater bus belonging to transport agency Garanti Express tumbled at Mbankomo as it was leaving Yaounde for Douala leading to one person dead according to the Minister of Transport though several sources put the death toll higher than the official toll.

“Investigations reveal the bus was on high speed and given its poor technical state, it lost control and hit the road embankment before tumbling,” the Minister of Transport said.

The Minister while expressing condolences to the bereaved families said investigations are still going on and all those found responsible for the accident will be heavily sanctioned.

Wednesday’s accident comes just a week after another accident along the Yaounde-Bafoussam highway that led to at least thirty persons dead.
