The Ethiopian police in collaboration with other security forces has arrested 71 people over allegedly planned terrorist attacks on the capital Addis Ababa and other towns and cities. In a press release on Wednesday, the National Peace and Security Task Force stated that evidence shows that the suspects have external connections from where they were receiving financial and logistical support.

According to the Task Force, the suspects are members of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and rebel Shene groups that have been recently designated by the country’s parliament as terrorist organizations.

Large sums of money that were being transferred to the alleged terrorists through Bole International Airport and other transfer mechanisms were intercepted by the security force, the statement indicated.

It said over $305,000 and more than two million Ethiopian Birr have been seized in connection with the planned terrorist attacks.
