The President Malaria Initiative has been launched in the Northern city of Garoua by the Embassy of the United States of America in collaboration with the Government of Cameroon.

US Ambassador Henry Barlerin and Cameroon’s Minister of Public Health André Mama Fouda launched the project on Thursday.

The US President’s Malaria Initiative  is a 20 million US dollar is a program funded by the United States Government to fight the disease.

Sixty percent of Cameroon’s malaria-related deaths in children under five occur in the Far-North and North regions.

“In the next year alone, PMI will purchase approximately 256,000 insecticide treated nets and approximately 7.5 million doses of malaria prophylaxis to protect 1.7 million children under five living in the North and Far North,”the US ambassador said.

The Ambassador said taking the project in the Northern regions of Cameroon with the efforts of Cameroonian authorities demonstrates a willingness to end the suffering caused by malaria and secure a more vibrant future the children.
