The Minister of Trade Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana has dismissed concerns of beer scarcity in Cameroon as reported in certain quarters.
After meeting with representatives of beer distributing companies on Monday n Yaounde, the Minister reassured all had been put in place to ensure normal distribution of beer.
The meeting came after threats from the distributing companies to go on strike accusing the brewery companies of a variety of poor treatment.
The distributors say they are unable to make adequate profit as a result of the increase in taxes since January 2018 and the recent increase in beer prices. The distributors also lamented the poor contracts as well as the non respect of the terms of the contracts by the brewery firms.
All these grievances, the Minister said will be looked into through proper dialogue as he called on the distributors to remain calm.
The distributors on their part have given a deadline of June 30 for a solution to be found or will embark on an indefinite strike.
