The 23rd edition of the competition took place this Saturday, February 17 in the city of Buea.

Some five hundred athletes took part in the race of hope this Saturday, February 17, 2018.

After several hours of racing on the mountain, the various athletes arrived at the municipal stadium of the city of Buea shortly before midday.

For the fourth time in the history of this event, Godlove Gabsibuin emerged winner of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope. He covered the 40 km distance in 4h30min 46sec. Already winner of the men’s category in 2012, 2013 and 2016, this time he broke the race’s record.

Godlove Gabsibuin was followed by Faï Elvis Ndzedzeni (4:38:20) and Kenyan runner Chelimo Luka (4:40).

In the women’s category, Carine Tata emerged winner of the race in 5h 26 min 54 sec.

She was followed by Yvonne Ngwaya, 2nd (5h 27 min), and Tanyi Wingo Immaculate in 3rd position with 5:28:23.

In the juniors, the first woman to cross the finish line was Fonyuy Larrisa of the Destiny Club, and Saidou Souleymanou of the North West region in the men’s category.

This edition of the race was run under high security given the current tensions in the two-English Speaking regions of the country.
