Jean Ernest Massena Ngale Bibehe, minister of secondary education, has for the fourth time extended registration deadline of the Cameroon General Certificate of Education Examinations, GCE, to April 15, 2017.
The extension which concerns only two centers; Bamenda and Buea was announced Thursday March 30, 2017 in yaounde. The extension gives students who have not registered the opportunity to either travel to these two cities to register on or before the deadline.
The Ministerial decision comes 10 days after the 3rd deadline expired on March 20, 2017. Minister Ngale Bibehe also extended the GCE examination timetable to two weeks after the initial date. Consequently this year’s GCE would be written in mid June 2017.
The Minister’s decision exhorts students to benefit from the two weeks Easter holiday and take part in holiday classes in order to catch up with time lost. According to the Minister, this new time table will go a long way to help students meet up with exigencies. Minister Bibehe urged all teachers to be present in schools and engage students in catch up classes especially on Easter holidays. The Secondary Education Boss said best students in mock examinations will be rewarded.
Schools have been paralysed since November 21, 2016 when teachers of the English sub system of education embarked on an indefinite strike action. Though the strike action was later called off on February 3, 2017 by the same trade Union leaders, schools have remained deserted as some arrested leaders undergo trial in Yaounde.
