Some five employees of the ministry of finance have been suspended from duty for supposedly fraudulently increasing the salaries of their closed ones and doctoring state data. Sources say the shady activities five individuals who work in the departments of treasury and taxation have caused the state to lose at least 1.3 billion FCFA.

The no-nonsense minister of finance, Alamine Ousmane Mey, reports say, kept them off duty last week on grounds of serious misconduct and breach of professional ethics. He however failed failed to press legal charges for the alleged thieving employees of his to face a court of law.

We gathered that besides manipulation data in computer systems of the ministry of finance, the indicted personal had also specialized in increasing the salaries of employees for their own financial benefits, using fake documents for reclassification of and ‘regularisation’ of some 700 civil servants.
