The Ethiopian Defense Force has reversed attempts by the rebel Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) forces to control the strategic city of Dessie in Ethiopia’s Amhara region, according to the Government Communications Service.TPLF spokesperson Getachew Reda said the TPLF forces have controlled Dessie city, which does not appear to be the case based on information from credible sources with links to the city.
However, some people have left the city since tow weeks after the TPLF shelled the city with heavy artillery.
Information reaching APA said there have been fierce battles in three directions and troops of the rebel force had penetrated into the city until they were neutralized by the government forces.
Government Communications Service Head Legesse Tulu has said in a press briefing on Saturday that TPLF earlier opened attacks at Worebabo, Tehuledere, and Chifra fronts, mobilizing all its forces in different places.
In a well coordinated counter offensive, however, government forces which comprise the national defense forces and Amhara special forces have caused TPLF suffer huge losses.
The head called on citizens to join the army, adding that working to sustain the economic growth is another key battle for Ethiopians.
