UMS of Loum kept their faint chase on league leaders Cotonsport of Garoua alive after recording a two-nil victory away against APEJES of Mfou on Wednesday in Yaounde.

Two first half goals from Vidal Tabi Ayuk and Vitus Amougui gave the Loum boys all three points to consolidate their second spot on the standings four points ahead of Bamboutos of Mbouda, but 12 away from champions Cotonsport of Garoua who demolished Unisport of Bafang four nil.

UMS Loum went into the game looking for a win that will keep them a distant away from the chasing pack and their ambitions were well on course when they opened scoring within the first quarter of the game.

A fast counter launched by goalkeeper Parfait Edimo Pehn found striker Vidal Tabi Ayuk who used his strength to bully past Oscar Claude Etoga at the edge of the APEJES box before slotting past Janvier Cyni.

Oscar Claude Etoga’s was once again at fault for the second goal when he was easily beaten to the ball by Vidal Tabi Ayuk for the second time in the game before laying laying it off to Vitus Amougui for a tap in as APEJES went into the dressing room two nil up. The APEJES coach had seen enough of his centre half and immediately hooked him off after the break.

In a game of few clear cut chances for the home side, Jerome Ngom got a sniff at goal when he bullied his way into the UMS box but scuffed his shot across the goal.

UMS dominated Apejes on their own patch

APEJES’s misery was compounded in the last quarter of the game when they had to finish with nine men after two players pulled out with injuries with no substitution left for the team.

UMS Loum could have added third in the dying minutes of the game when substitute Cedric Djeugoue laid off a pass to Joel Etogue who disappointingly shot strainght at the goalkeeper.

The game was also watched by the young lions

Jacques Olim APEJES Captain: “We started the game poorly, and we paid dearly for the two errors we committed at the back. We tried to get back into the game during the second half but we could not. We must admit UMS Loum were the better side today, all credit to them.”

Vidal Ayuk (UMS Loum): “It was a very tough game. Apejes played very well, they kept possession of the ball very well but with our experience and the good players we have in our team we were able to overcome them.We scored the first goal which killed their tempo and that gave us more courage to come forth for the second goal.”

Vidal Ayuk was the star for UMS Loum
