Enow Abrams Egbe, Chairman of Cameroon’s elections and referendums organization and management institution, Elections Cameroon, has reassured citizens and politicians of Donga Mantung Division of transparency in the upcoming multiple elections of 2018.

The chair of the electoral commission was speaking during a recent visit to Nkambe. While addressing guests, he claimed that the fact that he had worked for the Biya regime under the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization does not compromise the neutrality and autonomy of the structure he has been appointed to head.

The former Governor and erstwhile Divisional Officer for Misaje also said he will work with the same impartiality he portrayed while he was Divisional Officer of Misaje.  He warned ELECAM staff in the division that if any of them is found wanting in the execution of his tasks, he would be disciplined accordingly.  He used the recent sanctions meted out to some officials in the Center region to expound his warning.

He told political party officials that nothing would stop any party from wining any elective position in Cameroon if it is duly voted. He advised them to work hard and participate effectively in all stages of the electoral process.

To the people of Donga Mantung Division, Enow Abrams said in an election cycle, the registration phase is very important. “We therefore call on all youths aged 20 and above who are yet to be registered on the electoral list to do so before the August 31, 2017”.

Meanwhile the ELECAM team and mix commission in charge of registration of voters on electoral rolls are burdened with so many difficulties. The different council areas of the division are very large, coupled with the fact that heavy rains, poor roads and the hilly nature of the topography makes movement a daunting task for the staff. The division has only two identification posts for the issue of national identity cards, located in Nkambe and Ndu. The identification post of Misaje and Sabongari in Nwa functional in 2016 have gone comatose just as the one in Ako did a couple of years ago.

Humphrey Menyong Mbelli, Divisional branch head of Donga Mantung said they would be happy if stakeholders offer support to the Mixed Commission charged with the revision of the electoral register in their jurisdiction by facilitating movements for the commission members. He equally encouraged elite of the division to mobilize potential electors in their constituencies and invite the mobile mixed Commission to come for their registration.
