Ecobank officials have said the new mobile application will enable more people do banking transaction wherever and whenever without necessarily visiting the branches.

According to them, the state of the art mobile application is fast and accessible and gives better transaction incentive to the users, thereby making banking activities simpler.

Ecobank Cameroon launched the app on May 9 and its administrators say the bank hopes to increase its customer base through the app.

Gwendoline Abunaw, Eco bank’s Cameroon new CEO, states that the app is an important step in the bank’s ambition to digitise the country’s banking system. “The financial institution is pleased to be the first bank to launch a digital product in Cameroon which allows users to make purchases, transactions or trade without having to use cash” she said.

According to her, what the financial inclusion “means for Ecobank is the ability to allow more people into the banking space, doing transactions in cheaper and quicker ways”.

The banks administrators maintained that some of the significant steps already taken include the ability of every citizen to download the Ecobank mobile app and open an Ecobank Xpress account within minutes on the go. Also the Ecobank Mobile App they said, enables customers do instant payments as well as do instant transfers across 33 countries in Africa.
