Pauline Irene Nguene, Minister of Social Affairs, has urged stakeholders involved in the promotion of the rights of the child to work in synergy with government to ensure that all children benefit from fundamental rights.

Minister Irene Nguene was speaking June 7 in Ebolowa while launching week long activities ahead of the 27th edition of the Day of the African Child commemorated every June 16, 2017.

Prior to the launch, the Minister of Social Affairs and her accompanying delegation visited orphanages in Ebolowa and Ambam and all decentralised services in the South Region.

The Day of the African Child was instituted in memory of the 1976 student uprising in Soweto, South Africa, during which students who marched in protest against the poor quality of education were massacred by the then apartheid regime.

Activities and discussions to mark the week will centre on this year’s theme dubbed “the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development for Children in Africa: Accelerating protection, empowerment and equal opportunity”.
