North West elites of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) have raised circa FCFA 154,589,000 in order to kick-start campaigns on September 22.
Going by a report on National Daily Cameroon Tribune, the elites met on Saturday August 11, at the Yaounde town hall under the chair of Prime Minister Philemon Yang who doubles as North West Permanent Delegate for the CPDM Central Committee.
The report revealed that North West business tycoon Baba Danpullo contributed a whopping FCFA 30 million support. Meantime, most of the elite who attended the fund raising event said they are setting the necessary stages of the electoral process well ahead of time and fine-tuning campaign strategies in the region.
It should be noted that campaigns are yet to be officially opened as Cameroon’s Electoral Code in its Section 87 (1), states, the electoral campaign shall open on the fifteenth day proceeding the election and close at midnight on the eve of the election day. With the presidential election billed for October 7, campaigns will therefore begin on September 22.
