About 1,300 Zimbabweans have been repatriated from neighbouring Botswana since the end of March when the two countries embarked on lockdowns to contain the spread of coronavirus, according to media reports monitored here Wednesday. The state-run Chronicle daily reported that 1,291 Zimbabweans based in Botswana had been quarantined in Plumtree on the border between the two countries since March 30.

It said those quarantined comprised voluntary returnees and illegal migrants who were deported by the Botswana authorities.

They were all subjected to a mandatory 21-day quarantine in the border town as they entered the country as part of measures to mitigate against the spread of COVID-19.

Zimbabwe is on a seven-week national lockdown that began on March 30 while Botswana has been on a lockdown since early April.
