It was a visibly angry Coach Hugo Broos who revealed issues of unpaid salaries after Guinea Bissau beat current champions of African football yesterday

Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions were defeated in a friendly against Guinea Bissau in Brussels, Belgium yesterday. The Lions had succeeded to score an equalizer during the second half after they were being led, one goal to one.  Guinea scored a second goal during the second half and succeeded without much effort to maintain the score till the last blast of the referee’s whistle.

The defeat rattled Coach Hugo Broos who, sources say, revealed his players and trainers were not in high spirits before the match, due to financial constraints. We learned the current African Champions almost went on the pitch without eating as hotel bills remained unpaid.

The head coach also revealed that some members of his staff, who helped Cameroon win the AFCON 2017 trophy are yet to be paid. The coach said he is having second thoughts about his stay in the national team.

It should be recalled that Jeune Afrique recently reported that the head coach himself who earns circa 29million FCFA per month is owed seven months of unpaid salaries.

The Cameroon Football Federation debunked the report, noting that it has no problem with the coach. Alioum Alhadji, the federation’s Vice President said the information is inaccurate, but did not mention whether or not Coach Broos is owed at all.

Worthy of note is the fact that goverment reportedly spent circa 800million FCFA to parade the AFCON trophey in chieftowns of some regions of the country.

Yesterday’s friendly was played in build up to the Confederation’s Cup  to be played in Russia- Cameroon is going to take part.
