Defending Champions Morocco will face Mali in the final of the African Nations Championship on Sunday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium after dispatching Cameroon last night at the semi finals four nil.

Goals from Soufiane Bouftini, M. Bemmamer and a Soufiane Rahimi double sent the Atlas Lions into Sunday’s final as they now look to defend their crown against the Eagles of Mali who edged out Guinea in the first semi final.

Cameroon came into the game buoyed by their quarter final victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo but struggled to get a grip against a confident Moroccan side who dominated the midfield.

Cameroonians were caught cold just before the half hour mark when goalkeeper Soufiane Bouftini pounced on a rare error from Haschou Kerrido to give Morocco the lead. The PWD Bamenda goalkeeper spilled a free kick in the box which was poached home by the Moroccan striker.

Cameroon’s attempts to wrestle the game back left them exposed to several counters from the Moroccans who finally got a cushion five minutes from half time through their top scorer Soufiane Rahimi who concluded a swift counter from the defending champions.

Cameroon did try to stage a come-back in the second half but their efforts were completely watered down when Rahimi pounced on another defensive blunder to score Morocco’s third goal of the game and his fifth goal of the tournament.

There was even time for Morocco to add a fourth through M. Bemmamer who tapped home a cross beyond Haschou Kerrido.

Morocco now head to Yaounde for the final against Mali while Cameroon face Guinea for the bronze medal match on Saturday at the Reunification stadium.
