Peter Essoka, President of Cameroon’s National Communication Council, (NCC), is now the new President of African Communication Regulatory Authorities Network, (ACRAN).

The Cameroon NCC Chair was elected on the sidelines of the network’s 20th Anniversary celebration and the conference of Presidents, which held at the Yaounde Conference Centre recently.  The NCC Chair is expected to manage the 35 member network for two years.

The meeting in Yaounde, presided over by the Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, was also an opportunity for members to reflect on challenges of the next decades and how best to address them. In the end, ACRAN’s new executives resolved to exhort all member states to pay in their annual dues. To them, this will help in strengthening ACRAN’s authority and visibility.

It should be recalled that the African Communication Regulatory Authority Network – ACRAN was created in 1998 in Libreville, Gabon to promote press freedom and exchange on media regulation. It has held eight editions of the conference with the 2016 version held in Cotonou, Benin. CACRA is the supreme organ of the network and enjoys the fullness of rights allowing the realisation of its objectives.
