Stakeholders involved in the fight against malaria in the North West Region have begun strategizing to ensure the effective distribution of mosquito nets across the region.

They met last weekend in Bamenda during an advocacy meeting aimed at involving administrative, municipal and traditional authorities in the organization of the next phase of the mass distribution of Long Lasting Impregnated Mosquitoes Nets (LLINs) in the North West Region.

Chairing the meeting, the North West Regional Delegate of Public Health Dr Kingsley Che Soh said though there is much focus on the COVID-19 now, the fight against malaria must continue, reason why there must be greater mobilization in the region ahead of this latest phase of the distribution of the mosquito nets.

The situation is compounded by the socio political situation in that part of the country which makes it difficult for health and community workers to access some remote areas to distribute the nets.

Thus, Dr Kingsly Che Soh as well as the North West Regional Coordinator of the malaria program, Dr Wirngo, stressed on the need to adapt strategies in order to ensure the effective distribution of over One million, one hundred and sixty two thousand Long Lasting Impregnated Mosquito Nets across the region. They also stressed all actors would go through a rigourous screening process before the distribution exercise kicks off.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Health, Long Lasting Impregnated Mosquitoes Nets have contributed to 60 percent reduction in the malaria morbidity rate in the past ten years in the North West Region. Encouraging figures which show the distribution of the long lasting impregnated mosquito nets must continue despite the hurdles, the Governor of the North West Region, Adolphe Lele LAfrique said as he opened last weekend’s meeting.

He called on all the stakeholders to appropriately play their roles to ensure all households have mosquitoe nets and use them appropriately and consistently.
